First League Meeting 2024

April 7, 2024

Hey everyone.

Thanks for everyone that showed up to the meeting tonight.

A couple of things from tonight.

  • Went over financial reports from previous years – document will be uploaded to the site and FB page.

    • Increase this year of 3% from the city for costs of fields.

    • Umpires went down in price this year as previously we charged the first 3 playoff games to have a 2 umpire per game system.  Now we will only be having 2 umpires in the finals of playoffs for each division.

  • Mike Murray has once again joined as our league statistician.

  • This year there will be a change of how many payments we will be taking.  Instead of previous years of 3 payments we will be collecting registration in 2 payments.

    • May 1st - $1300

    • June 1st - $1300

  • Insurance was up for renewal this year.  The choices this year are SPN and NSA.

    • Jim McKinney attended the meeting to pitch the NSA insurance.

      • The cost for NSA is 110$ per team.

      • He will also give credits to the teams for the NSA website to get their merchandise for the prizing. (Ex: If there are 23-24 teams, he will give $2500 to put towards it).

  • Shawn Hanson was not in attendance, but Tim was able to speak on his behalf.

    • The cost for SPN is 110$ per team.

    • The prizing is 15 hoodies per team.

  • The representatives put it to a vote that SPN will once again be the insurance for a 2 year term.

  • The All-Star weekend is now going to be renamed to the Harold Nason All-Star tournament in honor of Harold.  The date is still TBD.

  • Discussed that the Saint John Slo Pitch league is going to be merging with the Sab/Miller Co-Ed Slo Pitch league.

    • This will help give us more leverage with the city and with time slots.

  • Tim has spoken with BJ Doucette, and he advised that there are more umpires to join the league.

  • We are looking to work with the city on finding a way to have a league sponsorship with companies to help reduce the costs of the fees.  Teams are still more then welcome to find their own sponsorships though.

  • We opened the floor to questions regarding anything from last year or would like to bring forward this year.

    • The DH rule for the pitcher is still an ongoing rule that we will have in place.

    • The divisions are going to remain the same with A/B split and C and D.

  • Molson is once again the sponsor for the league.  They will provide cases of beer for every team.  They will also do the receipt challenge again with the prize being a keg of beer to the team who hands in the most receipts of Molson products.

  • We ask that the rosters be handed in on May 1st along with the first payment of $1300.  The e-transfer payments will go to saintjohnslopitch@gmail.com.

Thanks everyone and speak to you soon.

The Executive.
